Checking the Engine Drive BeltsVisually inspect the condition of the drive belts. Check their tension by applying thumb pressure midway between the pulleys.

  1. With the engine turned off, check the belt for cracks, fraying, excessive wear, or oil stains. Have belts in poor condition immediately replaced by your Toyota dealer.
  2. With your thumb, press hard on each belt midway between the pulleys. Each belt should deflect no more than the ammount specified in Part 8. If a belt is loose, have it adjusted by your Toyota dealer.

CAUTION:

When the engine is hot, be careful not to touch the radiator or engine.
